Winter Lawn & Garden Checklist

The leaves have fallen and the winter weather is almost upon us. Now that your lawn and garden have been put to bed for the year, we can begin dreaming up plans for next spring.

Garden

  • Plan your garden now so you know what you have room for before next season! Remember to rotate your garden so the same type of plants are not in the same area as last year. This will help prevent diseases from spreading year after year. Stop into Parkview Nursery in Mid-February to be the first to check out our great selection of Olds Garden Seed.

Perennials

  • If we have an open winter you can trim the old foliage back anytime. Open winters can be hard on perennials so it is best to mulch the plants in for an extra insulation blanket to prevent winter kill. Plan what new perennials you are dreaming of for next season. We will start planting new perennials in mid-March so stop by and relieve some spring fever with us early in the season!

Trees and Shrubs

  • If you were waiting to cut your shrubs back for rejuvenation, this is the time to be doing so. Leave 6-12” of those shrubs that need to start over. Trimming in general can be done at this time but check first with a professional if the trees you want to trim should be done in the winter.
