The succulent train isn’t slowing down. If you’re a first timer at growing them, we’re to help! Succulents are easy to care for, as long as you know a few basics.
Succulents are a group of plants that are considered drought tolerant and love lots of sun. However, this does not mean that you shouldn’t water them, and some varieties benefit from a little midday shade. As a general rule, most succulents should be watered on a regular basis, typically once a week. Allow the soil to dry out between watering and then water deeply. If growing in a container, you will know you watered deeply enough if water drips out of the bottom. Under-watering your succulents may not kill them but they certainly will not grow. On the other hand, watering too often will cause your plants to rot and die. Always make sure you are watering only the soil as water on the plant can cause spots and rotting areas.
Succulents love sun but sometimes indirect sun especially during the mid-day hours is best. If you are growing your succulents inside place them in a bright window with indirect sunlight.
With the variety of succulents available, it is easy to find the right one for you. If you are planting a mixed container, try to select different growth habits so the container will fill out. Also, be sure to always use a soil that is suitable for cactus and succulents. We have Fertilome Cactus Soil available at the store and it is a great mix. If you have any questions, please ask! We would love to help you start or expand your succulent gardens.
